WordPress or Blogger, which is the best blogging platform to start a blog? This question has come across me quite a lot of times, so, I have decided to write an article on WordPress vs Blogger, to help you decide which is a better platform for blog writing.

Let us first understand the difference between WordPress and Blogger

WordPress is a blogging platform provisioned by wordpress.com which provides free as well as paid plans to host your blogs.

Blogger, on the other hand, is a free blogging service provided by Google. It is reliable, and a great platform for starters with a non-technical background. Google runs this service, thus, it owns your blog/website and has rights to shut your access to it at any time.

Which one is better: WordPress or Blogger?

Both WordPress and Blogger have their own set of pros and cons, but when you have to make a choice between the two these comparisons are definitely going to help you a lot….

1. The Dashboard

The dashboard is the first thing that you will see when you log in to your account. It helps you to control a number of things in your blog. Personally speaking about my experience, I have used both WordPress and Blogger, they are quite similar to each other and easy to understand. It is quite difficult to differentiate between their dashboards because there is not much difference. According to me, Blogger has an upper hand over WordPress in terms of first-time user experience. You can try both the platforms and decide which suits you the best.

2. The Online Income

Online Income

It is possible to make money through Google AdSense on both platforms but Blogger allows you to make money through its sub domain where as it is not possible in the case of WordPress. You need to have a custom domain for WordPress in order to avail Google AdSense services.

3. Themes: WordPress vs Blogger

WordPress vs Blogger Theme Comparison

Blogger doesn’t have a huge set of themes. It doesn’t provide a user the additional functionality of creating their own themes. You can use predefined tools to customize the themes fractionally. Moreover, the already present themes are very basic. Though recently blogger has added many new themes which are eye-catching but still when compared to WordPress, it seems to be running a little behind. WordPress, on the other hand, has a huge set of customizable premium themes. It provides flexibility to the user to create and edit their own themes. WordPress themes are very eye-catching as compared to Blogger. There are many high-quality themes that give a professional look to your website.

4. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

More than 50% websites over the internet are running on WordPress, therefore, I think, WordPress themes have an upper hand over Blogger themes. The WordPress themes are highly augmented for better Search Engine Optimization (SEO), hence, they can fetch a good amount of organic traffic from major search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. So, when, you differentiate WordPress vs Blogger in terms of SEO, and it is your first priority then you should definitely go for WordPress.

5. Security – Which has better security?

Security WordPress vs Blogger

Blogger is managed by Google, therefore, it has advantages of Google’s robust advanced security system. You don’t need to worry about managing server resources, securing blog or creating backups. Everything is managed by Google. On the other hand, I think WordPress is not so far in terms of security. There are many free and paid plugins which enhance the security of your WordPress website. I am using Wordfence Plugin for my website and it has protected me against 938 malicious login attempts so far…

Conclusion: WordPress vs Blogger

WordPress is a good option for those who know how to edit and customize themes according to their needs. Additionally, WordPress comes with many plugins which add essential functionalities to the website. You just need to buy a domain and a good hosting plan to install WordPress on your website. Monetization is also possible on self-hosted WordPress Blogs. So, On and all, I would recommend WordPress over Blogger because it overrules blogger in many aspects. Therefore, if you’re planning to start a blog and your motive is to earn money, then don’t get confused between WordPress and Blogger. Choose WordPress for your website…
